IIT JAM Syllabus 2017 –

The appearing candidates for JAM 2017 should check the JAM syllabus thoroughly to get well prepared for the examination. There will be 7 papers in the JAM 2017 for numerous M.Sc, Dual Degree courses and Ph.D in Science.

IIT JAM Exam Pattern-

The examination pattern for JAM 2017 helps the appearing candidates to get an idea about the pattern of the question paper. The examination pattern of JAM gives you an idea about the type of questions, distribution of marks, penalty for wrong answers and many other important details. The Exam pattern of iit jam 2017 will have three different question patterns and will be of fully objective type questions. the three different exam patterns are given here- (All candidates have to apply online.)

1. Numerical Answer Type Question Paper (NAT) – To answer these types of questions no choice will be given. students have to enter the answer signed real number by the help of virtual keypad on the monitor. It contains 20 numerical questions carrying one or two marks for each.

2. Multiple Select Questions Paper (MSQ)  –  there will be one or more choices in the given four choices which are correct. It contains a total of 10 MSQ carrying @ marks for each.

3. Multiple Choice Question Paper (MCQ) – there will be 4 choices given in these types of questions in which only one will be the correct answer. It contains a total of 30 MCQ carrying one or two marks for each.

IIT JAM Marking Scheme –

  • If question is not attempted, it will result Zero marks.
  • In MSQ – if you answer wrong then it will result negative marks.
    (For 1 mark question – 1/3 mark deduction)
    (For 2 mark question – 2/3 mark deduction)
  • In MCQ – there is no negative marking for these questions.
  • For Numerical Type Questions there will not be any negative marking.

Joint Admission Test for M.Sc Application Fee-

1) Apply For Only 1 Paper for JAM –

  •  General & OBC Category (MALE)                –          1500 Rs.
  • SC or ST or PWD(MALE) & FEMALE            –          750 Rs.

2) Apply For Both Paper in JAM 2017 –

  • General & OBC Category                                 –          2100 Rs.

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria 2017-

Candidates who want to apply for IIT JAM 2017 must have completed their Bachelor’s Degree in Science Field. candidates who completed their graduation from Distance Studies can also apply for this exam.

1. Age Limit – There is no age restriction criteria for iit jam exam.

2. Nationality – There is no nationality restrictions in iit jam exam. IIT JAM Exam is open for all nations.(Indians/Foreigners)

3. Qualification – there are some minimum requirements for the candidates who wants to apply for jam exam. These requirements are given here –

-for General & OBC Category                            –          At least 55% of marks

-Candidates from reserved Category             –           At least 50%  of marks

-Candidate must satisfy the Minimum Educational Qualification.

– Candidate must satisfy the Eligibility requirements of their respective Academic Program.

– Candidate must have the proof of passing the qualification degree as required by the admitting Institute.

– Candidates with B.Sc. degree through Distance Correspondence or Education who want admission in M.Sc. Physics or M.Sc. Mathematics in IIT Madras will have to appear in an additional interview.

– For the admission process in some programs at IITSc, IITK, & IITB , there will be an additional test held.

A candidate can apply for either one or two out of the seven JAM test papers subject to the restriction imposed by the Test Schedule.

The choice of the appropriate test paper is the responsibility of the candidate.

IIT JAM Guidelines-

  1. The candidate is expected to appear in paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree and/or based on the requirements of the academic program to which he/she desires to seek admission.
  2. The candidate is,  however, free to choose any paper according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he/she wishes to seek admission.
